ECJ Tax Partner Gary Michel Quoted in Los Angeles Times
Gary Michel, Partner and Chair of Ervin Cohen & Jessup’s Tax Department, was recently quoted in the Los Angeles Times article, “How Trump’s Tax Reform is Costing Some Actors Thousands of Dollars.”
The article takes a closer look at how Trump’s 2017 tax reform impacts actors’ abilities to itemize work-related expenses for tax deductions. As a result of that provision being removed, many actors are left struggling to make ends meet. “Eliminating miscellaneous itemized deductions has affected all kinds of employees who claim mileage, supplies and other work-related expenses,” said Gary. “It hits every employee.” However, the piece reports that steps are being made by unions representing Hollywood performers to “[push] Congress to fix the problem.”
With more than 40 years of tax and corporate law experience, Gary serves as a business advisor and tax strategist to his clients who demand effective and creative legal judgment over a wide area of legal terrain.
